About the Author

Tonya Dwan Floyd (formerly Shields) was born August 23, 1970 in Washington, DC. She grew up in the inner city, graduated from Theodore Roosevelt Senior High in 1988, and briefly attended the University of the District of Columbia. She is now a student at UMUC where she majors in Communications and Business Management. Tonya comes from a large family, and has three younger brothers. She still resides in the Washington, DC area. Her hobbies include bowling; watching football (How 'bout them Cowboys?!), basketball (Go Wizards!), and most other sports; working puzzles; playing board games; and of course, writing. The most rewarding hobbies are those which include spending time with her family.

Tonya has written editorials on various topics for the Prince George's Post newspaper. She is truly a versatile woman. She was a contributor to a women's blog in 2009 and 2010, where she discussed a variety of issues from her unique woman's perspective. She has brought that information home and expanded the blog here to include specific women's issues as well as other topics. No topic is really off-limits. Her belief is that people have more in common than we realize, and through open communication and sharing we can bridge those gaps, help each other, and expand our learning potential.

Welcome, and thank you for visiting. This site is dedicated to empowerment, encouragement, inspiration, entertainment, and embracing everything about beauty, wellness, and expression of creativity. In an effort to promote those, I have begun a couple of business ventures to help me reach as many people as I can with my personal approach to each. Above Average, Of Course

You think I’m rude, abrasive as well.  Quite frankly, I do not care.

You say you don’t like my style of dress, or the way I wear my hair.

My hips are wide, my skin is dark; you say no man would want me?

I beg to differ; it’s for those reasons any man would love to flaunt me.

I speak my mind whenever I can, I’m very assertive and sure.

Intelligence, motivation, and very strong will are part of my allure.

If you can’t handle the strength I possess, move on is what you must do.

Because in truth, I could never settle for someone as shallow as you.

And spread the word amongst your kind:  “Make sure you’re willing and able

To bring some love, respect and support to this young lady’s table.

If not, don’t even bother to try and run some game,

Because she’ll see right through you, Playa; ‘No bull’ is her middle name.”
