Live your life.

June 4, 2009

1. Hello again.  It's been a minute, but I got some things on my mind.  First, I was talking to a friend yesterday and commands like honor your father and your mother; a husband should love his wife as his own body; a wife should have deep respect for her husband; and love your neighbor came up.  Let me tell you that I know how hard, how seemingly impossible it can be to do any or all of the above, because some people are just not worthy--from what we can see.  But the commands came from above, and they were just that--commands; not optional.  Add to that the level of respect you're supposed to have for your superiors at work, and your instructors, and things can get real tough real fast.

All I can tell you is I'm right there with you on that; the thing is you can't write them off and walk away clean.  You do your best, you pray for help, you pray for them, and you refuse to allow their junk to change how you walk.  And recall that their problems are not necessarily yours, neither is there any shame--for you--in whatever tasteless, immature, or despicable things they do.  Don't accept ownership of embarrassment or guilt or anything else for the choices they make.  Refocus, and re-engage in something productive while Jehovah works that thing out.

2. Some people wish to live vicariously through others, urging them to say and do things they themselves would never have the gall to do and say, as if immersed in an interactive reality show.  I've sometimes felt people were calling to check on the latest T. Floyd episode, or to get a kick out of some outrageousness I may have that they don't.  The thing with that is what I have is for me, what I do is because I'm me, and though it may seem humorous on some level to you, my life is very much my reality; I'm not here for your amusement or to fill those empty gaps you have for lack of activity, color, or whatever it is that makes my life more interesting.  Bottom line:  You can't walk in these shoes, because they were designed exclusively for me, only I have the stature to execute this particular strut the way I do, and this aint no damn reality show.  It aint easy being me, and you don't have enough years left on the planet to master what it's like to be me.  Just go ahead and use the morsels you can digest from my example, and continue to watch in amazement as I go about the business of going on.  I'm just living; glance and keep it moving.

Tonya D. Floyd,

And that's all I have to say about that.
