Missing Something?

March 11, 2010

"For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark:  and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be."--Matthew 24:38, 39.

So I got to thinking, we can get so caught up in our own mess, so distracted by what we can see, so busy doing whatever we deem worthy at the time, we miss really important things.  When I turned on Sprout this morning, Cookie Monster was telling us the meaning of the word important.  He said something that means a lot to you; that's important.  But I happen to know that sometimes we let those things that mean a lot to us simmer on the backburner until we get through this, or finish that, or rearrange this over here.  And that's not really fair, nor is it wise.  We put off going to school until....  We put off fixing that resume up until....  We slack on grocery shopping until....  It goes from big stuff to seemingly small stuff, but it's true.  And then sometimes we completely ignore things that should mean a lot to us--like our people.  I say do you know where your children, or your parents, or your siblings, or your grandparents--somebody you should be looking out for--do you know where and how they are?  I've been writing a letter to my cousin for about a month now; seems like I talked to him just last week, but it was during the first snow.  That's just rude.

Anyway, life will without doubt continue to move around you, and things will pop up in front of you, but don't let your day-to-day rob you of quality of life and your people.  The scripture quoted wasn't just about trimming back silly things; it's about recognizing that there's an order to how things are to be done.  Jehovah God sends us messages to let us know that we should seek Him first, then we wouldn't have to worry about as much because He promised it would be provided.  So keep your day-to-day in perspective, and keep your people close.  Did I mention your kids?  Oh I did.  You can definitely replace your car, house, shoes, and such.  But once the ark is closed, you can't get back your life, or your people.  It's a wrap.
