About the books:
Nothing New Under the Sun (2011) is the newest offering from Ms. Floyd; her first work of fiction. In it, she explores the intricacies of relationships (marital/familial/friendly), and focuses on the introspective, emotional aspects of the characters, who are so realistic, you can't help but relate to one or more of them. These ladies are just that--ladies--and when confronted with life's challenges, each responds the best way she knows how, sometimes reinventing herself to rise to the challenge. But the reader becomes so engrossed in the drama surrounding the character, he/she can feel the severity of the issues at hand. You can't help but to wonder what will happen next. Some have asked "Is this a chick book, or a male-basher?" The answer is no. There are several strong, likable male characers who bring a certain entertainment quality to the book that makes it good reading for any reader--male or female. And these men are by no means bit players; they are woven within the storylines, as they are necessary components. Read each story with an open mind, and see where you can relate.

From Where I Stand, It Is What It Is (2005) poetically sums up the author's views on many of life's perplexing, yet relative issues. Tonya Floyd will take you on an interesting journey, contemplating everything from unexpected realities of relationships, to her love of food. The enclosed expressions served as the author's outlet for a multitude of emotions when she was not able, or was too uncomfortable, to express such things verbally. This very personal journey through Tonya's mind and heart envelops the reader in Tonya's emotions and allows the reader to envision some of her experiences through vivid description and creative details. This book, mirroring its author, is a unique and magnetic combination of intelligence, beauty, strength, vulnerability, creativity, and honesty. It began as a personal journal which the author kept over a period of seven years, as nothing more than a hobby. It sat in a drawer for years before its creator was encouraged by a friend to reopen it and share it with the world. Fortunately, it has now come to light for others to see, relate to, and perhaps even learn from.
   To go one step further, Tonya Floyd writes a gripping narrative elaborating on what her poetry only alluded to previously.
But Sometimes There's More (2006) is a refreshing vision quest through this young woman’s life.  It specifically tells the when, where, why and how its author came to be the woman she is, but its application stretches across the globe to all women, and was designed to give valuable insight on some female behaviors as well.
   You will be enlightened, amused, touched and encouraged as you become encompassed in people, places, and experiences associated with the author. Lessons learned are provided as a roadmap to help others avoid unnecessary pitfalls, discover a common thread between seemingly different people, and find joy where it was once elusive. Walk in Tonya Floyd’s shoes, see what she saw, embark on a journey through her mind; embrace her. There is definitely more here than a beautiful cover.

Nothing New Under the Sun

L Davis, September 2011 (MD): LOVED IT! WOW! Captivating, thought provoking, genuinely funny...some of the words that come to mind when I think of this book. I literally had to leave this book at home or I found myself sneaking to read it. The characters were genuine and I could relate to each of their stories in one way or another. Every woman will be able to. This was not just another book full of foolish drama or the world's view of women. This book encompasses the passion of the everyday real woman, her life, her worries, her ability to love unconditionally, her ability to adjust in every situation, etc. My least favorite chapter was the last one.  The author seemed to go on a little too long about the character's unhappiness with her career. However, the humor used to deal with her situation will have your sides splitting. I would definitely recommend this book to others and I have. 4.5 Stars!!!!!

CDangerfield, August 2011 (MD): "REALLY! There is "Nothing New Under the Sun." It's been a long time since I've read a book so captivating and one that I've finished in such a short period of time (3 nights). Nothing New Under the Sun is a thoroughly engrossing, simply riveting book that I am very happy to have read. I found myself constantly picking up the book to read at every opportunity that I could. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. This book is definitely a page turner. Tonya, girl, you put your foot in this book. I am really looking forward to a sequel....soon I hope. Thank you."

S Harris, August 2011 (MD): The main characters are excellently written, which is what I have come to expect from Tonya Floyd, she writes very unique, four - dimensional, and compelling leading people each and every time, this book is no exception. I love the four stories. The relationship in each stories develops in such a natural, believable and genuine way that is not always easy to capture or portray. The author did a wonderful job of drawing the readers into all four stories. All in all, this was a great book, one of the best I;ve read in a while. I would recommend anyone to buy it. Who know you might see your self in one of the stories.

C Underwood, July 2011 (NC): When I read this book I had the crazy feeling that I knew these people. I cared about these characters and wondered about them when I was away from the book. Then Tonya gave me what readers everywhere crave, resolution. We get to walk away knowing that our new friends are okay. Or not. You had me at page one!

I enjoyed this book a lot.  Tonya Floyd makes her words dance!  I was touched and amused.

Kalani--Washington DC, March 2006
I enjoyed this in-depth novel touching on various issues associated with the female experience-childbirth, family bonds, marriage.  From adolescence to adulthood Tonya took me on an intense journey of the life of a young black woman in the DC metropolitan area with a story to tell!

Thank You for telling OUR Sista Stories!
As women, in general, we often share similar experiences, and/or rites of passages, and I was happy to see in literature, those nuances coming to life. There are stories, and situations in this book that you will nod your head in agreement with because you have been there and done that, and it gives you a sense of empowerment because you did survive, as well as a sense of comfort because not only did you learn the lessons that were needed to learn, but you can pass that wisdom on.

Poetic Reality;
Kalani, Washington, DC  (6/16/2005)  Who hasn't had to endure hardships...I mean... what person hasn't had to overcome their share of difficulties in one shape or another? Each of us has. Interestingly, though, Tonya Floyd appears to conquer many an unwanted issue having been placed upon her path through her poetry. Yet, simultaneously these poems exude the confident vibe that she's nonetheless living up life like its golden!?! By means of such awesome duality, and captivating poetry, "It Is What It Is" intrigues the reader with the following message: Life's REALITIES can exist and be created upon only if such realities have been REACTED upon! What a true poetic testimony to life.

        Just when you're feeling alone in the World and the answer to the age old question, "Is it just me?" might just be, "Yes!" along comes this little tool to tell you you're not alone and it's not just you. I laughed (alot), I cried, but more than anything I pumped my fist in the air and said, "Yeah -- that's what I'm talkin' about". This is a great tool -- like a Swiss pocket knife -- for getting you over the bumps in life.
